Shower dress shopping

This past Sunday, I set out to find a dress for my baby shower. I was very specific about what I wanted…. a maxi with short/kimono sleeves, lightweight, $35 or less. Easy, right? Uh… no. I quickly realized that stores were vastly lacking in maxi dresses. The only ones I found were far too formal for my shower. I ended up trying on every dress I found at TJ Maxx that seemed to have enough belly room. What happened next was scary. This post is not for the faint of heart. It’s not pretty.

Um, yeah. I mean, obviously I swathed myself in a tablecloth from the Home section.

I did like that this one fit tighter…but it was not only TOO tight, but also shorter than I felt like wearing with fat, white legs.

Oh look, a tablecloth….with puffy sleeves.

Now, looking back at the pictures, this one was the best that I tried on at TJ Maxx. However, it was so uncomfortable because of tightness in the chest.

I thought this dress was the best thing ever…on the hanger. The fabric didn’t stretch enough and that gray stripe down the center just looked weird on my huge belly. Ugh, and my arms….ew.

I so adored this dress and I came very close to getting it. I wanted to put a skinny belt above my belly and pair with leggings. I just didn’t feel like dealing with shopping for “extras” just to wear this one dress. But my God, I loved the cotton voile fabric and all the embroidery. ahhh….

I finally got sick of seeing my swollen legs and hung up the shopping for the day.
I went to Kohl’s on my lunch break Monday and found THE DRESS! I got it for 50% off and it is even a maxi dress, like I originally wanted. Unfortunately, it’s also sleeveless, but I’m going to try to find something to go over it Friday. Otherwise, oh well..sausage arms will be on display! Here are some awful pics to give you a sneak peek!

Naturally, you’ll see the dress on me when I do a shower recap! Just so thankful to have found something!
