What a weekend we had! I didn’t realize that so many people have to work on Martin Luther King Day until I got on Twitter yesterday morning. So I count my blessings that Dustin, the kids, and I all had a three-day weekend together!
Friday was Nick’s 7th birthday. I started that morning out with making him funfetti pancakes and hot chocolate. That rocked his world. Saturday was his party and I prepared like a madwoman all day. We had invited his entire class and I had only one RSVP. I wasn’t sure if just that one kid or all 23 would show! That’s a major anxiety-causer for a control freak like myself. Luckily, Nick’s requests were quite simple – he wanted a chip buffet and candy buffet. Easy enough. We went to Sam’s Club and loaded up on 4 kinds of chips, salsa, and cupcakes. I got a huge bag of “Kid Mix” candy. I made ranch dip and bought some Angry Bird graham crackers and Angry Bird Cheese Nips. A couple of themed decorations and some solid party plates in coordinating colors and we were done! He could not have been more pleased. Only three of his classmates showed up, but it was just right. Although … this was the first time I’d met any of the parents and it was super awkward having strange adults in my house.
Anyway, his monster surprise gift was a major hit! He was so excited. We got him a 4th-gen iPod touch and completed it with a case and headphones. We also loaded it up with a bunch of apps. He spent the rest of the weekend sending me iMessages and FaceTiming me. Sigh. Lots of fun.
My mom bought us throw pillows for our bed. I’m totally in love with them! I can’t wait to switch to a white quilt and get a new mattress!
Sunday and Monday, we spend the day working out, detoxing from junk food, and being lazy. We watched Inauguration coverage all day. I love the Obamas and it’s always moving to watch an inauguration. I was all over that political goodness. Also, my girl Kelly’s hair inspired me to go a bit lighter with my hair.
It was such a nice weekend and I hated to see it end!

I’m so glad the party went well and that Nick was so happy with it, that’s all that matters!!
And seriously, I’ve NEVER had MLK day off at any of my jobs! I ended up taking the day off at the last minute though because Ronnie had to go do some volunteer work for school. It was sooo nice to be home and watch the Inauguration!
